At least 2,000 pine tree seedlings were planted by Suntrust Properties, Inc. on July 27, 2015 as part of its commitment to conserve and protect the environment. Undeterred by the rolling and steep terrain that made it difficult to plant seedlings, Baguio Suntrustees stormed to the Cabuyao Radio Relay Station (adjacent to the now-famous Sitio La Presa) in Tuba, Benguet to carry out the undertaking with the assistance of Baguio’s City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), which is headed by Edgardo S. Flor. The location is a military reservation camp. Walter Pedro, a forest ranger of CENRO, demonstrated the proper procedure of handling and planting a pine tree seedling upon arrival at the area. “Do not hold the seedling on the stem, because it is too sensitive. Make sure that the hole is neither too deep nor too shallow. And most importantly, as you plant the seedling, talk to it. Tell the seedling that it will save the environment,” he instructed. The activity was also graced by Rogelio Vallestra, cartographer and site coordinator of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.
